ELEMENTS DIGESTIVE ENZYMES contains the DigeZyme® digestive enzyme complex , which is owned by Sabinsa Corp. Each enzyme is responsible for catalysing the decomposition of other complex compounds into simple compounds. The DigeZyme® complex includes:
– α-amylase – an enzyme that breaks down polysaccharides (e.g. starch) into simple sugars, which are then absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; alpha-amylase is produced by the salivary glands, pancreas, mammary glands and the intestinal mucosa,
– neutral protease – an enzyme responsible for protein digestion,
– lactase – an enzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of lactose disaccharide into glucose and galactose,
– lipase – an enzyme that breaks down fats, which is produced mainly in the pancreas and is secreted into the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract; lipase breaks down triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol,
– cellulase – an enzyme that breaks down cellulose to form glucose.
