What is iodine?
Iodine is a valuable element classified as a non-metal. In the human body, it is a trace mineral – that is, it occurs in very small quantities, but at the same time it is necessary for its proper functioning. It is estimated that the human body contains only about 50 micrograms of iodine, of which as much as 75% is found in the thyroid gland.
How does iodine work?
Iodine regulates the synthesis of thyroid hormones – thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The thyroid gland is one of the most important hormonal centers regulating the metabolism of the entire body. Therefore, the balanced work of the thyroid gland is the balance of the whole body.
